We Just Discovered The #EgoChallenge And We Can’t Stop Smiling
It’s no secret that we live in a world where we are judged based on our appearance, and more specifically the flaws in our appearances, rather than the kind of person we are. Jane Oranika, from Montgomery, Alabama decided it was time to stop hating on our flaws and instead rejoice in them and we are so glad that she did.
The 17 year old tweeted saying, “can we do an #EgoChallenge? Like rap about our flaws n shit?” and proceeded to do so on her own Twitter page. To the background music from Beyoncé’s song Ego she happily went in on her own flaws and inspired others to do the same.
In an interview with BuzzfeedNews, Oranika said, “There is a lot of fear and negativity in the media currently,” and she believed there was something she could do to change that. “If we vocalize and normalize our differences, we can get past them and grow together.”
Soon after the Oranika posted her own video rapping about her flaws, many others followed suit and posted about their own. The trend even went so far as to reach Orange is the New Black actress, Danielle Brooks, who adorably posted her own #EgoChallenge video.
It is amazing to see people celebrating their flaws to build themselves and each other up in response to Jane Oranika. We hope this trend only grows and continues on. Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves and this challenge does just that. Well done Jane, well done.
