Tips To Take Care Of Your Curly Hair
When taking care of curly hair there are things you should do and things you shouldn’t do. It can become a daunting task managing your curly hair, and can seem like such a hassle. It might seem easier to just straighten your hair or even cut it. And although you are free to choose what you will do with your hair, I would like to share some tips on managing your hair that can give you the third option of caring for your curly hair.
Get yourself a wide-tooth comb
Although combing out curls can be the worst part of dealing with curly hair, the best way to do so is with a wide-tooth comb. Not only will it speed up the process, but using a wide-tooth comb will lessen the breakage to your hair. Which means healthier curly hair. It is best to comb your hair when it is already wet to also lessen breakage.
Try plopping your hair
After washing your hair, you might be tempted to dry your hair with any towel. Well this is a big no-no. When drying your hair with a towel, it should be with a microfiber towel. Regular towels will only create frizz in your hair when it dries, whereas microfiber towels are more gentler on curls, creating less frizz. In the case where you don’t want to invest in a microfiber towel because of the cost, you can also use a T-shirt, which has fibers that will also be gentle with curly hair. This technique called plopping is the best way to dry your hair without messing up your curls.
Figure out your curl type
The best way to care for curly hair is to know the type of curly hair you have. Like the chart above you can range from a type 2A curl all the way to a type 4C curl. Figuring what type of curl you have will help you figure out what products work for you and how to apply them in a way that suits your hair best.
Deep-condition your hair
Another big thing that will help your curls is deep-conditioning. You should deep condition at least once a week. This helps maintain moisture and can help detangle your curls.
Lastly, avoid heat. Your natural curls are beautiful, and you should embrace them. Also, putting so much heat onto your hair causes hair damage and can weaken your curls.
