This Comedian Says She Will Remain A Virgin Until Marriage
How old were you when you lost your virginity? Well, the avenge age for women to pop their cherry is 18, but one comedian isn't following the norm. At the age of 33 comedian and Insecure star Yvonne Orji isn't afraid to say that she is still a virgin. As a dedicated Christian, Orji plans on remaining a virgin until marriage.
“I’m grounded in who I am,” says the actress. “Before any of [the fame] happened, I sat down with myself and with God and thought, when I make it, how do you want me to represent you while I’m here? It was like, OK, I know why I’m here. It’s to make you proud.”
The CDC reports that virgins make up only 12.3 percent of females aged 20 to 24. That number drops below 5 percent for both male and female virgins aged 25 to 29 and goes as low as 0.3 percent for virgins aged 40 to 44. So this makes Orji a unicorn. In a world where sex sells it is unusual to hear an actress mention sex and not follow that up with something hypersexual.
Orji refuses to feel any shame for her decision. And she will not hide her virginity either.
“People ask about it because they’re curious, or they may not understand,” she says. “How will they ever get understand if I don’t talk about it? I can inform your curiosity, as opposed to everyone being in the dark and just sort of creating their own narrative about it.”
If you are still a virgin for whatever reason embrace the fact that you are a unicorn and never feel ashamed.
