Serena Williams Sings Powerful Song For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in an effort to raise awareness about the condition Serena Williams starred in a video you would never expect.
The queen of tennis participated in a project for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She recorded her own rendition of the Divinyls' hit "I Touch Myself" to remind women to self-check regularly. She posted the recording of herself singing the song topless on Instagram.
"Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it's an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key — it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that," Williams wrote on Instagram.
The music video is part of the "I Touch Myself Project," with Berlei for Breast Cancer Network Australia. The Divinyls’ lead singer passed away from the disease in 2013, and the project honors the singer Chrissy Amphlett. Williams also teamed with Berlei to promote its Chrissy bras, which make post-surgery bras. Check out the music video below.
