Selena Gomez Reveals “13 Reasons Why” Trailer on her Instagram
Selena Gomez made a big announcement yesterday on her Instagram, revealing a “passion project” she has been working on. Alongside her mother and Jay Asher, Gomez has been working to produce the TV adaptation of Thirteen Reasons Why, a book written by Jay Asher in 2007.
The 13-episode season tells the story of a teenage girl named Hannah Baker, played by Katherine Langford, who left a box full of cassette tapes explaining the 13 reasons for her suicide. The audio tapes are passed from person to person revealing more of the story that led up to Hannah taking her own life. We get the story through Hannah’s own point of view as well the boy who had a crush on her and the final listener in the line of tapes, Clay Jenson, who will be played by Dylan Minnette.
The actress and pop singer worked with Netflix to make this production possible and proudly showed the trailer for the movie as her announcement. The chilling Netflix trailer featured each character and Hannah’s own audio tell us to “just press play” to find out what happened to her.
This morning, Gomez took to Instagram once more, sharing a throwback picture to the day she officially pitched her idea for the project to Netflix. “My mom found this book in 2009 and worked her ass off to make it with me, guide me, and tell this story authentically,” Selena wrote.
We are so glad she could make this project a reality. If you haven’t yet read the book, get to it before the show hits Netflix on March 31st!
