Reese Witherspoon Is Very Proud To Be Part of HBO’s New Mini-series: Big Little Lies
Reese Witherspoon, executive producer and star of HBO’s anticipated Big Little Lies spoke about how important this role is for her and her largely female co-stars in an interview with TCA on Saturday. “It’s a unique privilege to be able to come to other women with material I feel deeply proud of and excited for,” she says. “These are the kinds of things that shift consciousness.”
Big Little Lies is a mini-series set to premiere on February 7th on HBO and will run for seven episodes. Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, the show will focus on the lives of three mothers of first graders, their families, motherhood, and a murderous secret.
Witherspoon and her co-stars are very excited at the steps this show is taking toward fighting the underrepresentation of women in Hollywood. “We have to start seeing women as they really are in film,” she told the TCA audience. “As human beings, we learn from art and what can you do if you never see it reflected?”
The show is a story about women, starring women, and produced by women. It is not only that the show is about women, but it is a role representative of real women with real lives, real problems, and real depth to their characters. “I feel like I constantly see women of incredible talent playing wives and girlfriends in thankless parts,” Reese went on to say.
Co-star Nicole Kidman agreed in saying it’s “rare to find five roles in a piece that we would all jump to play.” Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoe Kravitz will join Witherspoon and Kidman onscreen in the other leading roles of the mini-series.
We are very excited to see these women take on such amazing roles and play an even bigger part in giving women an even bigger role in the face of Hollywood!
