Oprah Winfrey Attends Elon University Ceremony of 2017! And Gave A Student A Gift She Will Always Remember
Oprah Winfrey is the epitome of generosity, compassion, and grace when it comes to helping others achieve their highest potential. For instance, it happens to be Nosipho Shangase who was touched by Winfrey’s magic and her self-determination that achieved success.
Shangase’s area of concentration is public health studies. In 2015, according to the university, she received one of the first Faculty Mentored Undergraduate Research grant from Elon’s Center for Global to develop a youth skills program in Kwa-Zulu Natal in the South African area of KwaNdengezi.
Winfrey met the president of Elon University whose name is Leo Lambert and his wife Laurie. Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa first opened up in 2007 and gave Shangase an opportunity to enroll into college and land her mark academically. Orphaned at a young age, with both parents deceased, moving from home to home, she was welcomed by mentors and teachers who inspired her to be the person she became today, which is a scholar. It delivered another promising opportunity for her to enroll Elon University in 2013.
“I’m a proud mentor Mom today, celebrating what is none other than an astounding accomplishment by my South African daughter girl Nosipho,” Winfrey said at the University. “To understand the fullness of her journey is to understand resilience in the face of multiple adversities, pain, and loss. Her walk across the Elon stage to receive her diploma will be a victory walk. Not only for her bur for me, her entire family, past and present. I along with her ancestors will be cheering the loudest!” Winfrey said.
After the festivities, Winfrey and Shangase spent time alone together. What a memorable graduation gift it would be to share some time with Oprah! Congratulations to Nosipho Shangase who came from adversity and did not allow it to stop her. South African girls will look up to her and see a hero who believed in her own power.
