Nike Creates First Plus Size Line

It looks like designers and clothing lines are finally getting with the program and making clothes for plus size women. Nike just launched their first plus size line and unfortunately, they are the only ones. Nike is the first mainstream sports brand to release clothing for plus-size women.

According to Helen Boucher, vice president of women's training apparel at Nike, you can't just make bigger versions of conventional size clothing. "When we design for plus size, we aren't just proportionately making our products larger. That doesn't work because as we know, everyone's weight distribution is different," said Boucher.

Nike has enlisted social media influencers Grace Victory and Danielle Vanier to be the faces of the campaign. Both plus size women have YouTube channels, Twitter and Instagram pages that embrace women’s curves and fashion.

Giving a statement on why they created the line a spokesperson from Nike said,

"Nike recognizes that women are stronger, bolder and more outspoken than ever. In today's world, sport is no longer something that she does, it's who she is. The days where we have to add 'female' before 'athlete' are over. She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes' diversity, from ethnicity to body shape."

This statement couldn’t be any more true; athletes come in all shapes and sizes.

The athletic brand workout clothes range from size XL to 3XL and are available in stores and online now.
