Miss Universe Great Britain Beauty Pageant

One Miss Universe contestant is standing by her convictions and not participating in one part of the pageant. This pageant contestant, Muna Jama ,became the first contestant ever to not wear a bathing suit during the swimsuit part of the pageant. Instead, she wore a caftan.

This is not Jama's first time in the Miss Universe contest. The first time she applied to be in the Miss Universe pageant she was pulled out because of the swimsuit round. She asked if she could be covered on the runway and was denied that request. Since Jama is Muslim wearing a revealing swimsuit is against her religion, and because of this Jama wasn't comfortable in a bikini.

"I wouldn't wear a bikini to the beach, so I'm not going to wear one in a competition to score points."

After going back and forth with the Miss Universe organization they agreed to let Jama compete in a caftan. This was a major accomplishment for Jama and future contestants because it proved contestants don't have to show skin to look and feel beautiful. Jama wrote about the day of the pageant on her Instagram.

"This moment has proved that I am capable of almost anything I set my mind to and limitation is a status waiting to be changed."
