Over the past two days, we watched her as she took her seat at the judges’ panel along with artists Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to scope out some of America’s best talent. The three traveled to New York, Los Angeles and Savannah, Georgia in search of artists worthy enough of the golden ticket to move on to the next round and head to Hollywood.

Ryan Seacrest also made a comeback to host Season 16 of the show.

There were a couple failed auditions, but the nights mostly featured beautiful, intense, funny, unexpected and heartwarming moments.

Season 16 Auditions 1 & 2 Funniest Moment:

After Nico Bones rocked out his American Idol audition, Katy hilariously belches before muttering, “I think you're dope” while Lionel disagrees and tells the contestant he's happy he stopped the song when he did.

Season 16 Auditions 1 & 2 Most Unexpected Moment:

Katy Perry earned her nickname Katy “Kuggar” Perry when she shocked 19-year-old contestant Benjamin Glaze with a kiss on the lips during his audition.

Season 16 Auditions 1 & 2 Most Beautiful Moment:

Contestant Maddie Zahm , 19, brought her best friend Marcus who suffers from down syndrome with her to the audition. The judges shared a special moment with Marcus when they let him sit with them at the panel while Zahm sang. Her performance of “New Rules” by Dua Lipa earned her three yeses to Hollywood — an extremely emotional moment.

Season 16 Auditions 1 & 2 Most Intense Moment:

Payton Taylor attended the Season 16 auditions with no intention of joining the competition. She was only there to play backup guitar for her sister Taryn Coccia, but the judges’ eyes immediately traveled over to her during the audition. The judges admitted that they saw more stardom in her than her sister and convinced Taylor to join the competition as her own artist. Fortunately, both sisters received golden tickets to the Hollywood round and a sibling rivalry was born.

Season 16 Auditions 1 & 2 Most Heartwarming Moment:

The final audition of last night’s episode featured a story about 28-year-old Marcio Donaldson who adopted his drug-addicted sister’s baby to save him from foster care. Donaldson gave a beautiful performance of Labyrinth’s “Jealous” while his adorable baby nephew watched in Luke Bryan’s arms.
