Jennifer Lopez To Do Motown Tribute At 2019 Grammys
The Grammys is pulling out all the heavy hitters for this year’s ceremony. You have Cardi B, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, Camila Cabello, H.E.R., Miley Cyrus, Janelle Monáe, Kasey Musgraves, Diana Ross, and Jennifer Lopez. Going to be such a great show because Diana is going to be given the Lifetime Achievement Award, Dolly Parton is going to be honored, and Jennifer Lopez is going to be apart of Motown’s 60th anniversary tribute.
Jennifer has been around the block (all puns intended) since the early 90’s, fly girl and all. So you know can’t discredit her on her entertainment abilities. Well once news broke that she would be apart of the Motown tribute heads eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
Motown Records has been a staple in the black community for, well, 60 years. Although the music has been around through many movements to uplift and bring people together there are a lot of questions surrounding the choice of J.Lo to be apart of the tribute. Lopez being of Puerto Rican descent raised a lot of eyebrows. Users all over social media pointed out the obvious in so many ways.
Black History Month is amongst us and people are confused. The confusion stems from the fact that the Grammys is known for not really including a lot of black performances in the past years To add insult to injury a lot of black dominated categories were not televised last year. In today’s time no one knows why CBS went with this idea. Would their motive be for ratings and reactions or based off of thought and well executed plans. Maybe it was because of the fact that she has a Las Vegas residency. We will all see on Sunday where the show runners’ minds were at while making this decision. Whether in real time, DVR, or social media we will see how this all pans out.
