Helpful Tips To Staying Focused In 2018

New year, new project? I know I have a bunch of new ideas for projects stewing around in my head, just aching to be brought to life. But it’s not easy to organize ideas and execute them, especially if you’re hit by the inspiration bug and have a lot of exciting new thoughts brewing at once. Here are some hacks I indulge in when I need a little extra help implementing my objectives.

This is just so fun! I know it sounds so cliché but I really love mapping out all of my ideas visually. I usually get a blank sheet of canvas paper and write down all of my developing projects in different color markers and draw little pictures next to them and experiment with different styles of handwriting. So every idea looks different. It’s a very personal feeling to see your own handwriting. But that’s just me. Other people cut out photos and paste on a poster board. Or if it floats your boat, create a pinterest board!

Make a Content Calendar

Not to make this sounds like you’re a social media manager and this is your job, but really creating something is a job if you think about it. You owe it to yourself to implement steps to ensure you achieve your goal in actuality. So create a content calendar. Fill in tasks you will complete each week that will help you stay on track. Buy a planner if you have to. Organize in a way that makes you excited.

Share Your Progress

I understand that your art or work is very personal but I find it encouraging to share with people I trust. It’s hard to keep objective when you’re working on something so personal for a long time. You tend either to judge too harshly or not enough. So share your work with people who you know support you. Not saying release your project into the world before it’s ready, but it is nice to hear a little bit of feedback on the way. It makes me feel like I’m getting somewhere.

Take a Breather

If you find yourself frustrated or stuck at some sort of block, there’s no shame in taking a break for a day or two. Time away always does the mind some good and you’ll come back with fresh eyes.

Lots of luck and love to you in all your endeavors! xoxo
