Geena Davis And Leymah Gbowee Speak At Bryant Women’s Summit
It’s always a wonderful site to see stars who use their position that they hold in Hollywood. and channel it into something that can help the greater good. Actress Geena Davis joined Nobel Peace Prize laureate Leymah Gbowee in making powerful arguments towards gender equality and the move toward the eradication of barriers that young girls and women around the world face everyday. The Bryant Women’s Summit drew out a soldout crowd of over 1,000 people last Friday.
"Women are seriously under-represented in nearly all sectors of our society," Davis said.
"Our world is calling for us to step up. We're seeing trouble everywhere. Desperate times." said Gbowee
Both women emphasized how change is possible in our society, and how the fight for women's rights, especially in the US is more crucial now than it’s been in recent years. They also went on to discuss how the male/female dynamic in the entertainment world (ie television, movies) has the opportunity to take on a whole new role in advancing the pre existing connotations associated with what is expected of “boys” and “girls”.
"Show that girls and boys share the sandbox equally." Said Davis.
Let’s hope this is a big step for the future influence that the entertainment world can bestow upon the next generation. Hopefully these new outlooks can push for an even more accepting and aware future for not only America, but the world itself.
