Exciting News: Will Smith May Be Joining The Disney Live Action Remake Of Aladdin!
Will Smith has done it all. He played one-half of the coolest pair of secret agents around in Men in Black, he portrayed the legendary Muhammad Ali in Ali (which Smith received an Academy Award nomination for) and now it looks like Smith may be joining the Disney’s next live action remake of Aladdin! Disney has been packing the punches lately with the remakes of some of their timeless tales including Cinderella, and the most recently released Beauty and the Beast.
Word is now spreading that the new Aladdin adaption being directed by Guy Ritchie may be recruiting Will Smith to portray the role famously played by the late Robin Williams, the Genie.
Robin Williams truly made the character his own and his impact on the original 1994 adaption is still felt by the films dearest fans. The producer of the film, Dan Lin, has made it clear about sticking to the source material for the new adaption and not tampering with the film’s original story.
"When I came in to make the movie, I wanted to make a diverse version of the movie. Luckily for me Guy Ritchie has the same vision and Disney has the same vision, so we're not here to make Prince of Persia. We want to make a movie that's authentic to that world."- viaCollider
Although nothing is official yet, I think it’s safe to say Will Smith would make a fine choice to fill in those big shoes of the Genie. Let’s hope for some confirmation soon so we can really start getting excited!
