Exciting News! Chanel Debuts Their Most Extravagant Runway
Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of the fashion house Chanel, is known for his over the top runway, but he may have outdone himself with his latest show.
Lagerfeld took his show to Germany’s Elbphilharmonie concert hall. The show included a full orchestra set with a special score created for the show. Conducted by British cellist Oliver Coates. The collection, called Métiers d’Art, was a poetic homage to the seafaring history in Hamburg Germany. Hamburg is the Lagerfeld’s Hometown and the location for the show.
“The port of Hamburg is quite poetic, even if it’s changed a lot because it wasn’t like this before. But I love it, and when I was a child, I went to school with the sons of ship owners, and we would come here and play on the boats, so all this to me is very familiar,” the designer explained.
A-list celebrities Lily-Rose Depp, Kristen Stewart, and Tilda Swinton all attended the show. Each woman has served as muses for Lagerfeld and the Chanel brand.
“It’s honestly, I think, the most beautiful Karl Lagerfeld Chanel collection I’ve ever seen,” Swinton said. “We’re in Hamburg, which is where Karl Lagerfeld is from, so it felt like a very balanced and organic and intimate, relaxed event, and it was a real privilege to be a part of it.”
Lagerfeld got a standing ovation from the crowd as the last model ripped the runway and Lagerfeld came out and took a bow.
