Disney Channel Is Airing Their First Ever Show With A Gay Storyline
Disney Channel is making big strides when it comes to new content. The usual cookie-cutter channel is introducing its first ever gay storyline in the second season premiere of their original programming 'Andi Mack'. The episode will deal with one of the male characters coming to terms with the realization that he has feelings for a boy for the first time ever. Although, Disney Channel has had gay characters appear in shows such as ‘Good Luck Charlie’ in the past, this will be the first time ever that a show on the channel will show a young boy coming to terms with who he is sexually.
On the breakthrough storyline for the channel, a spokesperson for Disney Channel said,
"Andi Mack is a story about tweens figuring out who they are;Terri Minsky, the cast and everyone involved in the show takes great care in ensuring that it's appropriate for all audiences and sends a powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity,"- via The Hollywood Reporter
It’s amazing to see the progress the channel is practicing to further promote a message of love and togetherness. Even a small kids show like 'Andi Mack' can now be a platform for other children’s shows to follow suit. Keep it up Disney Channel. This is a great start toward something so much bigger.
