Cynthia Nixon Is Running For Governor Of NY And I’m Here For It
I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Miranda from “Sex and the City” is running for governor of New York! Sorry, I definitely do not to mean minimize Nixon. I just have a basic – or should I say “classic” – love of “Sex and the City” but I do believe she is a very capable candidate.
She announced her decision to run on her twitter and instagram profiles. It carries a strong yet relatable message to New Yorkers everywhere. The post goes through a beautiful collection of New York moments Nixon has lived through.
She is a true New Yorker, born and raised. Paired with a message that she is also fed up with the antiquated subway system that screws us left and right, a demand for better schools and healthcare, and real support for LGBTQ rights.
Some of you may feel like, “Oh, this is just another celebrity running for office.” And it’s easy to roll your eyes. But I respect Nixon as a candidate. I commend her courage to run. She had been toying with this idea for months and this was not a spur of the moment decision.
In this political climate, we are seeing women run for office who may not necessary have an extensive political background but that does not imply that they are unqualified to hold public office. It’s not only a good thing but I believe it should be encouraged. We want to be represented by someone who understands us after all, don’t we?
There’s no doubt that I am super happy Nixon is running and I will continue to follow her campaign. However, before voting for any candidate, do your research! Though I’m thrilled, I will still be reviewing all candidates before placing my vote.
I can say, however, that I respect her as an actress, a mother, a New Yorker, and as a human. Nixon is authentic which is shown by the roles she takes and the causes she supports.
