Breaking News: A Former Fox News Host is Speaking Up for Women Empowerment
Gretchen Carlson was one of the first women to ignite the sexual harassment claims at Fox News which would later bring down former chairman Roger Aisles, and set in motion Bill O’Reilly’s eventual firing. The former host spoke at the “Conversations with Extraordinary Women” event in Danbury, Connecticut last Thursday. Carlson became face of the issues of sexual harassment in the workplace after her claims became public last year. She accused Ailes of repeatedly propositioning her for sex in a July lawsuit. She expressed to the crowd at the conference.
“I didn’t expect not to be working television anymore, but here I am. I didn’t expect to be the face of sexual harassment, but the one constant is what I wear on my wrist every day, which is my life motto and that is carpe diem and that means seize the day.”
The issues discussed at the conference ranged from the pay inequality and the sickening prevalence of sexual harassment in the workplace. One thing Carlson especially stressed to the audience was asking them to help her push to make arbitrary clauses no more in contracts. A lot of the time these make it illegal for harassment claims to go public. It’s great to see Carlson taking a stand for so many women going through the same hardships and unfairness that she herself experienced. Don’t be afraid to speak up ladies. Let’s work to make the future both a bright and fair one for all women in the workplace.
