Bras Are Poison And Here’s Why
Recently, scientific studies have shown that going braless have major health benefits. Researchers are now claiming that bras do the opposite of what they were originally designed to do: they make your breast sag.
In 2013, a medical specialist in France, Jean-Denis Rouillon, conducted a study with women ages 18-35 over the course of 15 years. These willing volunteers were studied closely to determine how wearing a bra daily could affect the woman's body. It was concluded anatomically, medically, and psychologically that wearing a bra has no benefits and actually causes them to fly south sooner than expected. Here are three scientific reasons why:
1. Bras Compromise Your Breast Tissue. Professor Rouillon noticed that the 330 women who participated in the study and gave in their bras saw a 0.3-inch rise in their nipples compared to those who wore their bras daily. He believes this is due to wearing bras religiously, which may damage the sensitive tissue in your breast resulting in your boobs losing tone and plumpness. Professor Rouillon stated to the New York Times, “Breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity—supporting tissues will not grow and even they will wither and the breast will gradually degrade.”
2. They May Cut Off Your Circulation. Researchers working on this study have found that wearing bras for an elongated period of time could cut off the circulation around your ribcage and midsection. This new discovery isn’t something that would happen overnight, but over the course of a few years if you’re a dedicated bra-wearer. This unhealthy tightening around your boob area could negatively impact other factors in this region that contribute to perky breast, for example the strength of your muscles.
3. They Weaken The Muscles Around The Region of Your Breast. Your body has these group of muscles, “suspension muscles”, that are crucial in preventing saggy boobs. They work along the connective tissue structures known as Cooper’s ligaments, and their job is to suspend the meaty part of your breast on the chest wall. Professor Rouillon says the quality of these muscles will diminish over time if you wear a bra too much, resulting in saggy breast. As every other muscle in the body, these muscles need a chance to work otherwise they lose their tone and eventually become weak.
If you don’t feel comfortable going braless that’s fine! Simply substitute your pushup bra or underwire bra for a bralette or a training bra. These bras aren’t as restrictive as the typical bras, but going all-natural is the best solution!
