Beyoncé to Fund $100K in Scholarships for HBCUs
Queen B did her thing this past weekend with her performance at Coachella - actually Beychella. To top off the breathtaking performance that was essentially an homage to education, Beyoncé announced that she will be donating $100,000 in scholarships. Four HBCUs - Xavier University of Louisiana, Wilberforce University, Tuskegee University and Bethune-Cookman University - will be receiving $25,000 for one student for the 2018-2019 school year. Sorry, Bey University will not benefit from the scholarship.
The scholarship named the Homecoming Scholars Award Program is the second program part of the #BeyGOOD initiative. The first was the Formation Scholars Award program, which was initiated last year for the one-year anniversary of “LEMONADE”. The Formation scholarship aimed “to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside of the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.” This year’s scholarship is open to all genders.
