Batgirl May Soon Be Coming To A Theater Near You!
With all the recent superhero adaptions dominating the box offices worldwide, it seemed like we had just about covered every superhero there is with the recent Wonder Woman trailer being released. However, it seems like we may be missing one thing… the Batgirl herself! DC Comics, whose recent releases include Batman Vs. Superman Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad has just announced that the famed heroine Batgirl will soon be the central character in an upcoming film that will be written and directed by Joss Whedon. Whedon’s previous work includes the first two installments of The Avengers movie series.
This would be the characters first ever venture on the silver screen since her only other appearance back in 1997 in the film Batman & Robin. DC Comics has been taking the initiative to make movies that focus more on female superheroes in the comic book universe. On top of Wonder Woman, DC has also announced an all-female spin-off to Suicide Squad entitled Gotham City Sirens. Although Marvel’s next couple of films will have primarily male leads, the company did break barriers with the announcement of the first ever female Captain Marvel, which will be portrayed by Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson.
It’s great to see all these inspiring characters finally getting the spotlight they rightfully deserve! Move over Superman, we got some fine strong females coming your way and there’s no stopping us now!
