America’s Next Top Model Is Breaking Supermodel Stereotypes
I’ve been watching America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) since I was a young girl. It’s a show that has been on-air for about 15 years now and throughout those years, I’ve seen a tremendous evolution in the modeling world. ANTM has broken down many barriers in the very field, bringing in diversity of all kinds. Whitney Thompson was the winner of season 10, making her the first plus-size winner in ANTM history. We also saw contestant Winnie Harlow, who has the skin disease of vertigo, have her chance on the modeling show. We’ve seen women of all kinds of women competing for the ANTM title but this season, Tyra Banks is assuring us we’ll be getting me diversity.
One thing they did different this season was that they no longer have an age restriction. Previously, all potential models had to be no older than 27. Now any woman, of any age could audition.
In a promotional video shared with US Magazine, Tyra Banks mentioned that “America’s Next Top Model has changed the definition of beauty, and empowered women when they needed it the most.” “We celebrate the beauty in all of us. All shapes, all sizes, and all colors.”
