When You Do What You Love, It Doesn't Feel Like Work #HellotittieTips

Hello friends and readers! I just thought it was important today to remind you to take some time out of your busy day for something that you love. I need to actively tell myself this everyday. It’s so alarmingly easy to get trapped in the cycle of productivity. I totally get it. We are so career oriented these days that it seems like we define ourselves by our career success.

Millennials are very educated. Most of us were encouraged to pursue college degrees. Work and productivity is very high on America’s list of priorities. But I challenge and remind you to carve some time to do something that you love every day. Now I’m not going to claim that it’s easy to take set aside time. It can be exhausting. A lot of the time I don’t want to be creative because I’m tired and too lazy and I just want to binge watch “Friends” even though I’ve seen every episode a hundred times.

Personally, I love to write. However my personal enjoyment mixes in with my professional success because my job requires me to write. But just because I enjoy my job doesn’t mean that the writing I do there contributes to truly personal happiness. Therefore I owe it to myself to carve out another half hour to an hour a day to ensure that I write something that is personal for me. That isn’t for my job or portfolio. And when I’ve already written for hours, sometimes I don’t want to use up the rest of my energy to be creative.

Alas, I force myself and I never regret it. It teaches me to be less result oriented and enjoy the process. Whenever I take that time for myself, I always feel like a better version of myself. Taking the time to listen to myself, asking myself what I want to do, and giving myself permission to enjoy it, is liberating. I feel revived and even though I exerted more energy, I am more at peace with myself.

So what do you love doing? Make the time to take care of yourself and be the type of productive that feeds you. The happiness you receive from doing something you love, I believe, will shine through in all of the other aspects of your life. Enjoy, friends, and get to work!
