2017 Self-Reflection

It’s that time of year! Self-reflection time! As a Virgo, I can fall deep into the void that is self-reflection especially around the holidays. It’s always times like these that bring up holiday memories and “where were you a year ago” thoughts.

I say, let’s embrace them. I’m also here to say that I am proud of you for everything you have accomplished this year. How you’ve changed? What you’ve learned? And who you have become?

It can kind of get sentimental and maybe a little sad but I think it’s important for us to sit in this reflection period for a while. I have no doubt in my mind that we all did the best we could this year in 2017. Let’s just take a second to stop judging ourselves by our successes. I can say from personal experience, success does not equal growth by any means. Failure sometimes leads us to growth. We learn what we like, what we don’t. Failure shows us where our strengths lie and encourages us to do better. I am stronger because I failed. I am stronger because I didn’t get the job. I am stronger because I couldn’t make the relationship work. I learned this year because I failed.

And much like our successes, our failures do not define us, either. Maybe our failures and successes, like any experiences – good or bad, shape us but they are not who we are. Our experiences this year impacted us and we changed. How have you changed? What are you proud of this year?

Self-reflection takes some extreme vulnerability but it’s something I encourage doing. Give yourself credit where credit is due. Don’t minimize things you’ve accomplished. Take this time to truly celebrate yourself. Don’t make a Facebook status rattling off your achievements. Don’t rely on other people to give you validation. Just you, personally, spend the time appreciating yourself and who you have become this year.

Really analyze what you’ve learned. What worked and what didn’t. Acknowledge the wonderful things you’ve achieved and encourage yourself to do even better next year. Now I’m sorry if this comes across really sappy but reflecting on how hard we all worked this year truly brings me joy.

So here’s to 2018! Happy New Year from us at Hellotittie!
