Hellotittie: What is Lemons 2 Lemonade all about?

Brittney Oliver: Lemons 2 Lemonade is an online platform geared to help motivate and equip millennials with career and lifestyle tips to help them achieve their goals. Lemons 2 Lemonade platform includes a blog, networking mixer, panel discussions and Twitter chats.  Each component introduces millennials to techniques that will help them thrive through life's challenges. Some of these techniques are based on my own, and a few guest experts’ experiences.  My events have been featured on Blavity and ColorComm's Diverge and Jopwell's The Well.

HT: How did you come up with your brands name?

BO: Lemons 2 Lemonade is a manifestation of my career journey. After graduating from Howard University, six years ago, life through lemons my way as I unwillingly went on over 100 interviews in an eight-month period before getting a job. That constant period of rejection broke my spirit and my confidence. It wasn't until I had the opportunity to at ESSENCE that my perspective changed. I was around unapologetic women who wasn't embarrassed by their past or present. Their wisdom and grace inspired me to share my story and start healing from the trauma of my job search. Once I shared my story online, I found a community who understood how daunting the job search can be. I decided we needed a platform where we can get candid information on the job search and have events to hear from industry insiders, influencers, and professionals who turn their life's lemons into lemonade.

HT: How long have you been curating mixers?

BO: I've been curating mixers since 2016.

HT: What advice do you have for women aiming for a leadership position?

BO: Be fearless by shooting your shot. Many times we think we can't do something or we are afraid of the result. The most someone can say is "no" and if they say "no" then you just find a different plan and a different path to get your "yes".  After being rejected so many times, I'm in a position where the no's don't affect me as much. I take the risks now.

HT: How do you find strength when you are going through hardship?

BO: I held on to my truth of knowing that I am supposed to be doing something greater and that any of life's lemons are just the ingredients to make my lemonade even more sweeter. We all have a purpose and God puts us through tests to prepare us for his purpose in our lives. I just let Him lead me.

HT: What woman inspires you and why?

BO: My mother continues to be a constant inspiration to me. Her work ethic and perseverance despite dealing with chronic illnesses all her life is a reminder that I have no excuse.  If I want something, I need to do what it takes to make it happen.
